Former Kenawee Major Killed In Tragic Accident
A former Kenawee mayor was killed in a fatal trucking accident after the truck that he was driving in crashed head first into another truck. The accident occurred near Geneseo on Highway 6 on July 7th. At this point not a great deal is known about the accident, however it is clear that the former mayor, named Jim Burns and who served the community as mayor for over ten years, was killed as a result of the personal injuries he suffered as a result of the accident and that he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Two other people that were riding in the other truck, that was attached to a trailer at the time that the tragic accident occurred, did not suffer very serious injuries and actually were not even treated for any injuries that were sustained in the accident. A friend of the victim who had actually seen the former mayor earlier that morning, actually passed the accident once the police had arrived and had no idea that it was his friend that had been involved in this tragic accident. According to WQAD , the friend, as well as many other Kewanee residents, had nothing but kind things to say about the former mayor, including what a wonderful and devoted family man he was, and mentioned what great things he had been able to do for the community.
