May 17, 2012 - According to reports a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was injured in a pursuit. According to the California Highway Patrol the motorcycle crash occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on the Imperial Highway off-ramp in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway, in Anaheim. California Highway Patrol Officer Devon Boatman said that the CHP motorcycle officer was in pursuit of a motorcycle that was speeding on the 91 Freeway. When the officer took the Imperial Highway off-ramp his motorcycle left the roadway, coming to rest in a dirt field, CHP Officer Boatman said. The motorcycle that was being pursued was identified as a Suzuki GSX-R, Officer Boatman said. The CHP motorcycle officer that was injured was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with moderate injuries, Officer Boatman said. According to the California Highway Patrol the motorcyclist that was being pursued was wearing a yellow full-faced helmet and went in an unknown direction. They said that the Suzuki GSX-R was black and yellow. April 19, 2012 - According to reports the coroner’s office said a motorcyclist killed Wednesday was not wearing a helmet. According to coroner’s officials, the motorcyclist killed on Wednesday in Lake Forest on a dirt bike has been identified as Bryan Marquez age 20. Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino said that Marquez was riding south on Rue de Fortuna at Fasica Place at the time of the crash. Amormino said that Marquez is believed to have lost control of the dirt bike due to traveling at an unsafe speed. Marquez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and is believed to have hit his head on the curb after he lost control of the motorcycle , Amormino said.

April 18, 2012 - to reports a motorcyclist was killed in Lake Forest in a mid day crash. According to Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Dan Dwyer said the motorcycle crash was reported at approximately 12:12 p.m. Wednesday. The motorcycle accident occurred on Rue de Fortuna in the vicinity of Cabriole in the Foothill Ranch area of Lake Forest. Lt. Dwyer said authorities believe the fatal crash was a solo-vehicle accident and that they do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash. According to sheriff’s officials the motorcyclist has only been identified as a man in his 20’s who was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Lt. Dwyer said the motorcycle appeared to be a dirt bike that was involved in the deadly motorcycle accident.

April 9, 2012 - According to reports the driver that has been identified as Tatsuhiko Sakamoto age 37, police said had a blood alcohol over the limit. According to the California Highway Patrol Sakamoto had a blood alcohol level of .08 and has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence, causing great bodily injury. Sakamoto was released on $300, 000 bail late Sunday, and is scheduled to enter a plea on April 26th, in connection with him allegedly driving through cones on the 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park, where he struck and killed Connor Penhall. According to the California Highway Patrol, Penhall was operating a concrete saw, while working on a roadway crew at the time he was struck by Sakamoto and thrown between 50 and 75 feet. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said that Sakamoto is facing up to 10 years in state prison.

April 6, 2012 - According to reports the driver that struck and killed motorcycle racer Bruce Penhall’s son has been arrested. According to the California Highway Patrol the driver that struck and killed Conner Penhall, who was working on the closed section of the 10 Freeway, has been arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said the driver identified as Tatsuhika Sakamoto age 37, drove through traffic cones prior to hitting Connor Penhall, with enough force to throw him between 50 and 75 feet. Penhall was pronounced dead at the scene of the motorcycle crash that occurred in the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway, at Francisquito Avenue. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Edmund Zorilla, Tatsuhiko, who was driving a Toyota RAV4, initially attempted to flee the scene of the crash and was stopped by officers. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Sakamoto is being held on $200,000 bail and could face up to 10 years in state prison.

April 5, 2012 - According to reports motorcycle racing legend Bruce Penhall’s son was killed on the I-10 Freeway, Wednesday night, by a driver suspected of driving under the influence. According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the I-10 Freeway in Baldwin Park. The accident occurred in the vicinity between La Puente and the 605 Freeway, at Francisquito Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials said that the area where the deadly accident occurred is closed nightly between La Puente and the 605 Freeway. Conner McDermott Penhall age 21 was doing contract work, according to Caltrans, when the accident occurred. According to the CHP officials the area of the I-10 Freeway had been closed approximately an hour, when the driver of a Toyota RAV4 drove through the work zone, hitting Penhall and throwing him approximately 50 to 75 feet. California Highway Patrol Officer Edmund Zorilla said that Penhall died on impact. The driver of the Toyota RAV4 has been identified as Sakamoto Tatsuhiko age 37, of Arcadia, California Highway Patrol officials said. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Zorilla, Tatsuhiko attempted to flee from the scene of the fatal crash, but officers were able to stop him. Tatsuhiko was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into the Industry Sheriff’s Station and could face charges of vehicular manslaughter, CHP officials said. Actor and motorcycle racing legend Bruce Pennhall is the father of Conner McDermott Penhall, and was said to be following in his father’s footsteps in the motorcycle racing, along with brother Ryan. Penall’s father won the World Speedway Championship in 1981 and Conner has been racing since 2003, wearing the number 81. His father is also known for his acting roll in the last season of Chips.

April 2, 2012 - According to reports a motorcyclist was killed on Sunday night in Mission Viejo. According to Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Lloyd Downing, a motorcyclist was killed at approximately 8:10 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the Marguerite Parkway in Mission Viejo, in the vicinity of Via Florecer. Lt. Downing said that the motorcyclist has been identified as a 44 year old man from Laguna Niguel. The motorcyclist was riding a Harley Davidson in the southbound lanes of the Marguerite Parkway, when he hit a landscaped median and was thrown from the motorcycle. Lt. Downing said there were no other vehicles involved in the deadly motorcycle accident. Officers attempted to resuscitate the motorcyclist, who was unresponsive without success. The man has been identified by the coroner’s office as Reginal Daniel Futch Jr. of Laguna Niguel. According to witnesses the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and losing control of the Harley Davidson, prior to hitting the median. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office the southbound and northbound lanes of the Marguerite Parkway were closed for several hours while investigators were at the scene of the crash. The parkway was closed between Via Florecer and Jeronimo Road.

March 14, 2012 - According to reports a skateboarder that was struck by a motorcyclist that left the scene of the accident is in critical condition. According to San Bernardino Police Department the hit and run accident occurred at the intersection of E Street and 31st Street in San Bernardino. San Bernardino police said that a 17 year old girl on a skateboard was critically injured, when she was struck by a motorcyclist that was speeding. Police believe that the motorcycle reported by witnesses as a Japanese sports bike was traveling at approximately 75 mph in a 35 mph zone. Witnesses told police the motorcyclist fled the scene after hitting the 17 year old heading north on E Street. The critically injured girl was transported by paramedics to Loma Linda University Medical Center and listed in critical condition.
